Key Dates
March 26, 2024 - First day to circulate petitions for independent, new political party, and Chicago Elected School Board candidates seeking election in the 2024 General Election.
June 17, 2024 - First day for independent, new party, and Chicago Elected School Board candidates to file original nomination papers.
June 24, 2024 - Last day for independent, new party, and Chicago Elected School Board candidates to file original nomination papers.
July 1, 2024 - Last day for filing objections to the nomination papers of all candidates who filed during the June 17-24, 2024 filing period.
August 5, 2024 - Last day to file petitions with the Chicago Board of Elections for the submission of questions of public policy.
August 7, 2024 - First day to apply for a Vote By Mail ballot for the November 5, 2024 General Election.
August 12, 2024 - Last day to file objections to petitions for the submission of questions of public policy.
August 19, 2024 - Last day for local governing boards to adopt a resolution or ordinance to allow a binding or advisory question to be placed on the ballot for the November 5, 2024 General Election (limit: three questions).
August 29, 2024 - Last day for the city clerk to certify any binding public question or advisory referenda to the Chicago Board of Elections.
September 5, 2024 - Last day a person may file a notarized Declaration of Intent to be a write-in candidate.
September 20, 2024 - Last day to mail ballots to persons in the United States Service, their spouse, and/or their dependents of voting age, citizens temporarily residing outside the territorial limits of the United States, and non-resident civilians.
September 26, 2024 - First day to mail Vote By Mail ballots to voters.
October 8, 2024 - Last day for regular voter registration or transfer of registration.
October 9, 2024 - First day of Grace Period/Same Day Registration and voting.
October 31, 2024 - Last day to apply for a Vote By Mail ballot for the November 5, 2024 General Election.
November 5, 2024 - Last day of Early Voting.
ELECTION DAY: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2024
On Election Day from 6:00am to 7:00pm, a voter may cast a ballot at either their assigned precinct polling place or at any vote center within Chicago. Same Day Registration is available at all precinct polling places and vote centers.
